Hello team,
Sorry for the late one today. There may be a few more typos than usual.
It’s been a super busy week with lots to recommend so let’s get straight into it.
Podcasts
This week many podcasts have been consumed.
Firstly, Significant Watches was back for their first episode of 2023.
I really love the insights from the horological homies, and the humour in listening to Charlie Dunne not even trying to pretend he likes modern watches.
Keep up the great work team! I just wish you had more frequent episodes!
Secondly, a new podcast to 3-Watch Thursday, A Collectors Gene Radio.
I’ve been listening the last few weeks and couldn’t believe I haven’t recommended this as a listen until now.
This week’s episode features a certain John Goldberger, and Cameron does an excellent job as a host asking all the right questions.
Other episodes I love that are worth a listen are the ones with Silas Walton about collecting Hermes and George Bamford.
Thanks for creating such an excellent podcast Cameron! I’ll keep working my way through your back catalogue over the next few weeks listening and learning about collectors I haven’t previously been familiar with.
WBLDN
I won’t hide my biases here, but Ben Dunne of Watch Brothers London has been getting a lot of hot press recently.
First contributing to this Tony Traina Hodinkee article about 90s watches and complications being back (great in-depth article and thoroughly worth a read).
Next, receiving a full feature in Revolution this week detailing how he goes about his business (hint he buys what he would love to own).
And finally he goes and drops this absolutely mega piece on his own blog about Blancpain reference 5335 (minute repeating perpetual calendar with JHP cases).
What a week!
Hat’s off to you Ben.
Sotheby's London: My Five Favorite Vintage Watches Coming Up At Auction
It’s people like Charlie Dunne of Strictly Vintage Watches who walk so we can run.
I’ve mentioned it before how I’d love to have more auction knowledge with knowing what to look for etc and working out what I find exciting.
One of the obvious barriers to this is time (and probably experience), that’s why I really appreciate curated lists from people who’s opinions I trust.
This article details Charlie’s favourite 5 lots.
Some interesting pieces and the results have already been realised over here.
That’s all from me this week.
Only 1 hour 20 mins late in the end.
In all honesty I had plenty more to talk about, but some of it’s not going anywhere so can move to next week.
Have a great rest of your week and a good weekend.
Owen
