Hey team,
I’d like to start by apologising for the lack of a newsletter last week. Due to an incredibly busy schedule and a big project (more on that below), I simply couldn’t find the time.
This is just a blip though.
3-Watch Thursday will remain a weekly newsletter bringing you content that I hope you’ll also enjoy.
Let’s dive straight in!
Rare Finds — Blancpain Six Masterpieces Set No.1 of 99 in Platinum
When I got the call from Ben a few weeks ago that he had these watches coming in, I didn’t know much about them.
When we chatted again the next day, I think my enthusiasm was clear to hear. I just couldn’t wait to get started.
Having been fortunate enough to handle these watches and seen the popularity of the listing on social media, I don’t think this is the last we hear about them.
Ben has done an incredible job not only in sourcing them but presenting them to the world.
Biases aside, whether I’d worked on this project or not, I think I’d find myself recommending this listing as it’s one of the most unique I have ever seen. It’s special in that it doesn’t read as a watch listing should and it sets a new precedent for presenting interesting watches to market.
Paired with this article discussing the development of these watches, you come away having learnt a vast huge amount about 80/90s Blancpain.
Congrats Ben!
Both articles can be found here and here!
And I’ve added a couple of my favourite photos below:
A Matter of Taste - Popularity of Different Materials
I’m extremely pleased to share this article by Marcus of @siemswatches posted over on Goldammer Vintage Watches.
Last summer I was learning to code and one of the projects that I undertook was to scrape auction data and try to find trends.
Unfortunately, I never had time to do analysis, but it was a great project and I’m more confident than ever with coding and improving my skills.
I didn’t want this data to go to waste, so I sent it over to Mr Watch Data Man himself and this is the first of what is likely a series.
One of the key points highlighted in this piece is:
“the mutual understanding that knowledge and education needs collaboration“
The watch industry can be incredibly closed off at times with knowledge often held by a few people. Collaborations like these formed on common values such as openness allow us all to benefit. I like to think that it’s true that a large amount of content I consume and engage with is from creators who are open with the knowledge that they possess.
Thank you Marcus for this brilliant piece.
I can’t wait to see what’s to come!
The Dalai Lama’s Watch
A short segment here on the Dalai Lama’s watches.
As appears to be the popular opinion at the moment, I don’t tend to care for celebrity watches or endorsements.
This is slightly different though.
A passing comment from a colleague about the Dalai Lama having a watch collection sent me down a Google search as to what he owns.
For some reason I never expected him to have a watch collection, let alone such an interesting one, but even my non-watch nerd colleague knew he owned a Patek Philippe.
Here’s a quick link to the article that I read.
That’s all this week from me.
Hopefully you enjoy the articles linked.
Any comments feel free to send them my way.
Other than that have a great weekend and see you next week!
