Good morning team,
Happy Thursday to each and every one of you. This week has passed by like a rocket, but in the world of watches things are still moving at a snail’s pace it seems.
That’s why this week has some Instagram content. My Gen Z brain can only cope with short-form content after all.
Weird and Unique Casios pt. 2
I’ve been following Nolan White from my personal Instagram for a while now and he makes some brilliant style videos, but unlike many other style Instagramers he’s clued up on watches.
I really enjoyed this reel about odd Casio watches.
Admittedly, I didn’t know any of them existed.
Go check out his work, especially his trip to Glashutte to visit NOMOS.
A Watch Dealers Diary - Goldammer Vintage Watches
This article by mail list favourite Marcus Siems over on Goldammer piqued my interest this week detailing the dealings of Goldammer over the last few years.
Taking his usual data-driven approach I was impressed by the level of transparency shown, but then again transparency=trust especially in the minefield I sometimes think of as vintage watches.
Particularly interesting is that even based in Germany most of their business is done with clients in the USA.
I’d heard similar things from some UK-based dealers but assumed it was a bit of a post-Brexit thing whereby trade with European clients had gotten harder so more watches went to the USA. That led me to assume an EU-based dealer would do more trade with EU-based clients but how wrong I was.
Thanks for the insight, Marcus! Keep up the great work.

Grinding Gears: Recovering Your Stolen Watch Shouldn’t Be A Hopeless Dream
Sticking with data-driven approaches to watches, this piece came up over on A Blog To Watch this week.
It showed the chart above from the Met Police in London along with the efforts (or lack thereof) by different parts of the industry on combating the sale of stolen watches.
An interesting read, if a bit short and sombre.
I’m always a fan of data in watches hence the recommendation.
Graduation Watch
Not that I suspect many people are interested, but if you read last week’s email and saw my Instagram story yesterday you’ll have seen that I graduated this weekend just gone.
I snapped a quick pic of the watch I was wearing afterwards at dinner. It was taken on my phone hence the poor quality.
Given graduation is a family-heavy day, it felt right to wear the watch that belonged to my great-grandfather. Keeping good time and with a fresh crystal, this 9ct gold-plated Allaine might not have much monetary value but its sentimental value is infinite.
I haven’t posted much of it on Instagram in the last year or so, but if you scroll back far enough it’s there with decent frequency.
That’s all for this week.
Any comments or suggestions are as welcome as ever.
Have a great weekend when we get there.
Owen
I think the link for the Goldammer article got dropped, don't see it.
