Morning team,
I hope you’re all doing well.
A quick PSA. I’m starting work next week and will be busy here there and everywhere. I’m hoping to find enough time to write 3-Watch Thursday, but if not that’s why.
That doesn’t stop us this week though, with 3 watch related pieces of content landing in your inbox this morning!
Did Gérald Genta Design History’s First Luxury Steel Sports Watch For IWC, and not Audemars Piguet?
I spotted this a few weeks ago over on Quill & Pad by Anders Modig and it’s particularly interesting.
This week I was chatting to a friend about Genta designs and how the most interesting are probably the ones for the brand Gerald Genta, but then this design that never made it to production appeared in June 2022 at Sotheby’s.
David Seyffer of IWC helped clarify the origins of this chronograph sports watch and Modig ponders the significance of a designed but unproduced watch.
Definitely worth a read here.
Significant Watches Episode 40: Sketchy Watches, Scammers & Fake 1518s
After listening to and recommending an old Significant Watches episode last week, Charlie Dunne reached out and said I just had to listen to the latest one when it dropped.
So I obliged and wow was it a cracker.
The Horological Homies were in full flow taking the mic out of each other for their differing tastes and Mr. Wind provided some incredible stories about sketchy watches he’s avoided working on with Bolsonaro’s sold state gifts recently in the news.
Cracker of an episode, well worth a listen when you get a moment.
Perpetual Picks: Accidents Happen – Here's How A Simple Kerning Mistake Created A More Desirable Daytona
Similar to last week with Ben Dunn’s deep dive into Ebel El Primero Chronograph reference numbers, I’m always a fan of deep dives into particularly niche and finicky topics.
This makes me delighted to share some editorial work from Logan Baker over at Phillips on Rolex Daytona APH dials. On a bit of a role with deeper dives at the moment, Logan’s work covers a broad range of brands which I really commend.
This article is about the specific APH ‘misprint’ which is one of many ‘special’ Rolex dials. Since there are so many nuances in things such as Rolex dials, I always appreciate content that sheds light on it as sometimes this information is tricky to find.

Bonus: Casually Explained: Photography
Not strictly watch-related but for those who read this newsletter and are into photography this video hit a little close to home lol.
That’s all from me this week.
Hope you have a lovely weekend when we get there.
See you again soon!
