Good morning team,
Hope you’ve been having a great week!
Not much to intro this week, except if you’re at Subdial tonight I will be too! Can’t wait to see you all!
As a heads up this email is quite image-heavy (rip engagement stats), so it’s likely you’ll have to open in a browser to read the full thing.
Every Watch Ben Clymer Mentions in His Feature on The Collectors Gene Radio
Is this weird?
Probably.
Is this interesting?
Probably.
Might Ben block me on Instagram if he already hasn’t?
Most likely.
Featuring on one of my favourite podcasts this week was Ben Clymer of Hodinkee on Collectors Gene Radio (linked below).
It was as great an episode as ever (thanks Cam), but as I sat on an erg without access to the internet listening I realised half the watches Ben mentioned I couldn’t picture!
So here we go: every reference mentioned and pictured from the episode above!
White Gold Rolex GMT Master II 116719 BLRO
White Gold Speedmaster 3861
Patek Philippe 3940G
Patek Philippe 5170P Tiffany Dial
The Omega Speedmaster MK40 from his grandfather
Maurice Lacroix (not pictured)
Rolex Explorer 14270 Blackout
Rolex Daytona 6240
Rolex Daytona 6239 Paul Newman
Patek Philippe 2526
Rolex Daytona 6241 Paul Newman
Rolex Daytona 6263 Mark I Paul Newman
A few iterations of 6239 were mentioned.
Vacheron Constantine Corne de Vache Hodinkee Edition
Jay-Z wearing Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime
Rolex Daytona 6263 Tiffany
Patek Philippe 5004R
Patek Philippe First Series 2499
Patek Philippe 3796 Tiffany
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak RD#3
Blancpain Flying Tourbillon
Bit of an odd one to include here, but I have been OBSESSED with Blancpain Flying Tourbillons ever since shooting one earlier this year.
It’s possibly one of the best watches that Erik of @hairspring could’ve used to muse on neo-vintage watches.
You can check out what Erik has to say here.
And here is one of my favourite shots of the watch above ((:
Farer Chrono-Contempo Collection, the Chalcot
I’ll admit, Farer watches aren’t often on my radar, but with many brands such as Christopher Ward and Tissot picking up a lot of heat for jumping on the whole integrated bracelet stell sports model bandwagon, Farer looks inspired by something else with this watch:
The ever-popular Heuer Skipper.
Except it’s not blatant and I like it.
That’s all I’ve got to say really. I’m not sure I’d ever buy one, but that said there are not many watches I’m sure I would buy, I just enjoyed the way a watch was used for inspiration without blatant copying.
Rolex Tru-Beat
This week I ended up scrolling on reels quite a bit and came across this Rolex watch I’d never seen before!
In case you don’t know Rolex only ever made one quartz watch series…the Oysterquartz, yet that doesn’t mean Rolex only made one watch series that ticked.
Enter the Rolex Tru-Beat, a deadbeat seconds mechanical watch designed for surgeons and other professionals who need to time to the second.
Produced in such small numbers, they’re definitely not common, but this reel gives you a pretty good intro if you’ve also never seen one before.
That’s all for this week.
Any feedback or more information relating to this morning’s subjects is as warmly welcomed as ever.
Have a lovely weekend when we get there!
Owen
