Morning team,
Hope everyone is having a good week in the post-W&W23 world we now live in. Maybe it’s because I’m more involved than ever, or maybe it’s because more people are involved than ever that this year felt particularly in your face on Instagram.
I’m really not here to rant though, so let’s get into it!
Patek Philippe’s Thierry Stern on Skipping the CPO Craze and How Washing His Car Led to One of the Brand’s Most Striking Dials
Not the recommendation that I was expecting to make this morning but it comes with a story and another recommendation.
A couple of weeks ago a gentleman by the name of Paul Croughton followed me on Instagram. Then last week he was featured on a favourite podcast of mine: Collectors Gene Radio.
Maybe I’m slightly biased towards the wanting to listen to other Brits on podcasts, but I thoroughly enjoyed this episode.
Croughton is Editor In-Chief over at Robb Report and spoke at length about his career prior to this role and some of his more recent work including that piece with Tyler, the Creator.
As it turns out, I didn’t know about that Tyler, the Creator piece so dashed over to Robb Report to find it, stumbling upon this week’s recommendation along the way.
What I love about it is Stern is a very open CEO given the luxury nature of the industry. Maybe he’s no Chris Grainger-Herr appearing on About Effing Time doing marketing tongue twisters, but he’s not a CEO you never see in public/press available for interview.
It’s a cool read covering a variety of topics.
Check it out here.
Storytime
90s Tag Heuer is having a bit of a resurgence at the minute. I’ve spotted both Ad Patina and Tony Traina hyping them up. I’d say it’s possible/likely they grow in popularity as 90s kids move to hold more influence in the watch media (said as a Gen Z).
Then I remembered this picture I took at Christmas of my parents’ 90s Tag Heuers.
Since I was a child I remember my Dad telling me how he negotiated for the two of them together as a wedding gift for himself and my mother. My parents aren’t into watches, but you can tell from the picture they’re well worn and much loved.
It’s a nice story to share and if I know anything, watch people love a good story. I’ll write a caption and get round to posting it soon.
Watch Spotting At The Rowing Blazers X Zodiac X Harry's Bar Launch Party
Really grateful to share these images from the Rowing Blazers X Zodiac X Harry’s Bar Launch Party.1
They’re some of my favourite images to date as I try different photography styles dependent on conditions and briefs.
You can check out the full set of images here.
You'll probably also see them sprinkled into my Instagram feed.
That’s all for this week.
I realise many watch related things have been linked, but that’s the purpose of this newsletter, I just hope you enjoy.
See you next week,
Owen
Special thanks to Eric Wind, Jack Carlson, Drew Nearing, Charlie Dunne and everybody I met at the event.
