Good morning team,
I hope you’re having a great week!
Lots has happened and I can’t wait to share some photos in next week’s edition, but for now, it’s content I’ve pulled together from the corners of the watch internet.
So without further ado, let’s get straight into it.
Pocket Watches Making a Comeback
As long-term readers may know, I’ve long been a fan of pocket watches, including those from the big watch manufacturers.
There are some stunning Rolex pocket watches that have been brought to market in the last year by the likes of Eric Wind, but this winter auction season features some more with noticeably higher estimates than this time last year.
Justin Hast pointed out yesterday this Breguet performing well.
There are some truly iconic and historically significant pocket watches that have been made. I just hope the interest continues and we can all learn more together.
The Three Dials of 1st Series Patek Philippe ref. 3940
You just knew it was gonna happen.
Watch Brothers London dropping a huge reference-style article the night before 3-Watch Thursday, and it gets a mention in this newsletter.
Do I need to say anymore?
Brilliant to read the differences between dials across reference 3940.
Now I’m armed and *dangerous* with information, I’ll be looking a bit more closely to each 3940 I see1.
You can read the article here.
The Bezel Report | Watch Market Insights 2023
I said it last week with the Subdial report and I’ll say it again, the more data we have as consumers the better.
That’s why I was interested to see this report over on Bezel.
It’s super interesting to read about rejection rates (something I’ve not seen anywhere else), along with the usual bits of data you’d expect from an online watch retail platform.
You can read the full report here.
Tudor Special Dials
Just like most of you, I’m a sucker for a Tudor special dial.
The military ones are cool, but the brands and retail ones definitely hit closer to home.
This one above is for the 100th Anniversary of retailer Urmaker Bjerke and the photo from jorgen.erdahl on Instagram.
Again, there’s been a bit of hype around these watches and I think in an edition down the line, I might pull together the information I can find on modern Tudor special dials so a lot of it’s in one place.
That’s all from this week.
Auction season is rapidly approaching and I can’t wait to see what happens as the market officially ‘softens‘.
I hope you have a great weekend when we get there.
Owen
See on Instagram lol (I think I’ve only ever seen 1 or 2 irl).
