Hello hello hello,
Welcome to 3-Watch Thursday #6.
I can safely say we’re well past the period where a newsletter just falls off the face of the Earth never to be heard from again.
That means you’ll continue to hear from me every Thursday in your inbox at 10 am (GMT or BST1).
What you’re not here for is the preamble, so let’s get straight into it.
Market Update - September 2022
A little late to this one, but last week Subdial released their Market Update for September 2022.
In summary, it’s positive if you care about the state of watch prices (not everyone does hence the disclaimer).
The Subdial 50 index is up 1.2% over the last 30 days. You can check the current status on this link.
A couple of things to note.
Firstly, in the promotion of this story and in one of the images we see some glimpses of Subdial’s “rebranding”.
Secondly, it gives a really good summary about what you should know as a collector rather than any ‘hype’ article on a major news site.
I’ve also got a couple of disclaimers. None of the plots have y-axis markers so we have no idea how big the differences month on month are.
Other than that, you can check it out here!
ACM YouTube Channel?!?!
This is an odd one.
Watch related YouTube channels have exploded in recent times with Nico Leonard and Watchfinder leading the way in the metric of number of subscribers.
Hodinkee have been a near constant too, turning out fan favourites such as “Reference Points” and “ Talking Watches”.
But the A Collected Man channel is one that I’m almost certain you’ve never seen.
With only 2.16k subscribers and 13 videos in the last 5 years, they’re not regular posters or trying to beat the algorithm, but the videos are well produced and worth a watch.
Go check it out here.
The Conversation Your Reactions To The Tudor Pelagos 39 – And The Latest Royal Oak Variations
I don’t know about you, but I’ve always scrolled through the Hodinkee comments section and had a chuckle.
There’s usually some really rouge stuff in there, but I was surprised this week to see the Editors addressing the comments in the segment titled “The Conversation”.
It’s worth a read and I didn’t realise that this was a new segement, but I hope it stays.
My only wish is that next time there’s more comments.
You can see it here.
Bonus 🔌
In case you missed it last Thursday this piece was released as the first of a 3 part series tackling how Rolex became Rolex for Wind Vintage.
Big thanks to Eric anc Charlie for helping with this and providing the platform to share it.
If you’re interested (hopefully you are) you can check it out here.
That’s all for this week!
If you enjoyed this week’s edition of 3-Watch Thursday why not consider sharing the newsletter:
Depends on whether the UK is daylight saving or not.
Brilliant article on the Oyster, Owen. Thank you once again!
